College Savings Options for Higher Education

Is higher education in your family’s future?  Join a college savings specialist from the Finance Authority of Maine to talk about planning and saving for higher education. In this 1 hour long workshop, we will cover how to decern the "Net Price" (what you'll actually pay) vs the "Sticker Price", when planning for higher education expenses, and the aspirational and financial benefits of savings for students of all ages. You’ll be introduced to several options available when saving for higher education, such as Coverdell, UTMA/UGMA accounts, and the program highlights of Maine’s Section 529 plan, NextGen 529. Join Maire Pelletier, College Savings Counselor from the Finance Authority of Maine for this 1 hour virtual session and get started with saving for your child or grandchild’s higher education.

Learn the very basics you need to know to begin speaking Spanish with Byron Cortez, who grew up in Guatemala, and now makes his home in East Boothbay after a career in global human resources management and over a decade of teaching second languages to adult students. In this course, you will learn basic grammar, verbs, pronouns, gender, common words, and simple sentences. This class is intended for students who seek an introduction to the basics of the Spanish language.

There is still a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation about Maine's compassionate end-of-life care option. Many providers and patients in Maine are still not familiar with Maine's Death with Dignity Act. In effect since September 2019, the law permits physicians to practice medical aid-in-dying under specific circumstances. Know the facts and, if qualified, the right to access medical aid in dying if they choose. Join this class to get fact-based information and all the details you need to know about Maine's law, how to have the conversation with your physician, and how to qualify for the law or support your loved one who may be qualifying. (No materials/supplies required). You will recieve a link to login online for this class.
